Meet Cynthia

"I have had the pleasure of working with Christyn during her tenure with Fifth Third Bank. Christyn signed on as a special assistant to Community Reinvestment to support community engagement initiatives. Christyn is by far the hardest working and most strategic partner I have known. She produces excellent project outcomes, is a self-starter, and has a very pleasant demeanor. I appreciate her diligence and wish I could duplicate her several times over."

-Tiffany Hollin Wright, Coach | Executive | Strategist "Resolute Integrity. Real Solutions."

"I worked with Christyn a few years ago at Wells Fargo. I have to say as a service manager she was helpful and professional at every turn. The retail banking business can be hectic but she was a completely competent and hardworking service manager. I highly recommend Christyn as part of any team. She's definitely a team player and helped our branch succeed."

Q & A

Q & A

What is your management style?

My management style is collaborative. As a leader, you have to set and be an example, hold yourself and others accountable. You need to be a guiding force – willingly able to roll up your sleeves and help your employees become the best version of themselves.

Who are your main influences?

My mom, Diane has been an anchor and a steadfast influence in my life. She is both strong and gentle, firm and kind, and above all a loving mother who sacrificed so much to give me a better life. I owe everything to her.

What is your strategy for getting your team a high standard of work?

I value every single member of my team because each has something valuable to contribute. I believe in building a team that is fully cross-trained and feel that their contributions are important to the success of the team. In addition, I set expectations, create accountability which lead to building trust (do what you say), and finally, obtaining my team’s buy-in and firm commitment to high standard of work.

Can you talk about a time when you had to negotiate with a customer? What did you do? What was the outcome?

A non-bank business customer whom I’ve been prospecting to win their account relationship makes multiple trips to the bank, have multiple unauthorized ACH transactions on their account, their payroll system was outdated, and pays an average of $285 in monthly service fees. I wrote and negotiated the business plan proposal to help simplify their banking needs by giving them one online access to be able to view all eight business accounts, set them up with a remote deposit check scanner, setup fraud controls such as Positive Pay for Payroll, ACH Monitor for ACH transaction approval, and reduced their monthly service fee to $50.00 each months. The business owner were so impressed with the level of commitment that I provided them they not only moved their entire banking relationship to us, they also wrote a letter of commendation to the Director, Senior VP of Retail Financial Center.

Was there a time you needed to gain the trust and support of your peers in order to be successful in something?

When I became the branch manager, I have a team of 5 people (including myself) and the branch that I was assigned to was underperforming. There was discord and distrust between the associates, and with very little motivation, I knew that I have to gain their trust and commitment by setting expectations and guidelines, get my team engaged, delegate responsibilities, cross-train between bankers and tellers, and hold my team and myself accountable. This process took about six months to accomplish, however our team ended the year by being the #1 branch in the area and surpassing our branch’s goal by over 200%.
